Codecast vs Claude Squad
Claude Squad runs several terminal agents side by side in one terminal window, each in its own git worktree. Codecast records every agent session you run, wherever you start it, and lets you read, search and steer them from web, desktop or phone.
Codecast is a workspace for your coding agents. A daemon reads the history files your agents already write, so every session on Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Gemini, OpenCode, pi, Grok or Muse Spark syncs live from every machine you use. You read, search, message and steer those sessions from web, desktop or phone. It works for one person; a team layer is there when you share a project.
Claude Squad is an open source (AGPL-3.0) terminal app, run as cs, that manages several agents in separate workspaces: it starts each one in its own tmux session and git worktree, lets you attach to reprompt it, shows a preview and a diff tab, and can commit and push a session's branch to GitHub. Claude Code is the default program; its README names Codex, Gemini and Aider, and any command can be set as the program. Claude Squad’s site.
Bottom line
If you want to run several agents at once from one terminal, each on its own branch, with nothing to sign up for, Claude Squad does exactly that. If you want every session you run, in Claude Squad or anywhere else, kept as a record you can search later and steer from another device, that is Codecast. The two compose: Claude Squad starts real agent sessions, and Codecast records them.
Side by side
| Codecast | Claude Squad | |
|---|---|---|
| Core model | Records and steers every agent session you run, wherever you start it, from the history the agent already writes; a team layer is there when you want one | Starts and manages agent instances itself, each in a tmux session on its own worktree |
| Agents supported | Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Gemini, OpenCode, pi, Grok and Muse Spark, plus Cursor and Codex cloud agents | Claude Code by default; Codex, Gemini and Aider are named in its README, and any terminal agent can be set as the program |
| Where it runs | A daemon on each machine where agents run; clients on web, macOS desktop and iOS | A terminal UI on the machine running the agents; needs tmux and gh installed |
| Parallel work | Forks and workers started from a session (cast fork, cast spawn), each optionally in its own git worktree, on this machine or a cloud host | The core job: one worktree and branch per task, reviewed in a diff tab, then committed and pushed from the UI |
| Team visibility | Every teammate's sessions in one feed and inbox, with per-directory privacy controls | Not stated; it manages the agents on one machine |
| Search & memory | Full-text search across all past sessions; agents query team history themselves (cast search / cast ask) | Not stated; instances persist until you delete them, and cs reset clears them |
| Line-level attribution | cast blame traces any line of code to the conversation that wrote it | Not stated |
| Remote steering | Web, macOS desktop and iOS apps; send messages into a live terminal session and answer permission prompts from any device | Not stated; you attach to sessions in the terminal running cs |
| Pricing | Free for one person, per seat for teams | Not stated on its site |
| Open source | MIT, with a backend you can host yourself | Open source, AGPL-3.0 |
Choose Claude Squad when
- You live in the terminal and want to run several agents at once without managing worktrees and branches by hand.
- You want a small local tool with no account, no service and no other app, installed from Homebrew.
Choose Codecast when
- You want every session kept after it ends, searchable months later and readable by your agents.
- You want to check on a long run or answer a permission prompt from your phone or another computer.
- You run agents on more than one machine, or start them from more than one tool, and want one record of all of it.
They compose: Claude Squad's instances are ordinary Claude Code, Codex or Gemini sessions running in tmux, so a Codecast daemon on the same machine records them like any other session. Claude Squad runs the parallel tasks; Codecast keeps the record and the remote steering.
